PCT Touch Screens
Projected Capacitive Technology (PCT) touchscreens manufactured by Zytronic Displays PLC offer dramatically improved levels of reliability and protection against physical damage compared to other touch screen technologies. This makes Projected Capacitive touch screens ideal for use in a very wide range of applications, from POS terminals to harsh environment industrial or vandal prone applications such as unattended outdoor terminals.
Zytronics PCT Technology works by laying down a matrix of micro fine wires onto a sheet of glass and passing an oscillation frequency through these wires. This turns the matrix into a series of capacitive plates, and when a conductor such as a finger approaches the screen, the capacitance of these plates' changes, and the control electronics and software translate this into a touch position.

The crucial feature of this technology is that the wires can be placed behind up to 20mm of protective glass, or laminated between layers of toughened glass making the touch screens extremely robust. A unique benefit is that the touch screen can be placed behind a protective sheet of glass or inside a shop window, and be operated through that protective sheet or window. This also allows kiosk designers to eliminate the bezel from their designs, giving their kiosk a modern, ergonomic appearance, and removes the risk of fluids and other contaminants getting between the bezel and the touch screen.
Not only does this technology produce a highly dependable, low-maintenance system, it also offers unrivalled protection against a wide range of physical threats – a cost effective solution for the most demanding touch sensor applications.
Summary of Benefits:
